OUR NEW FISCAL YEAR HAS BEGUN

On July 1st we began our new fiscal year. We want to give a big shout out to all of our member hospitals for a smooth re-enrollment process this year. Thank you for being so responsive and getting your paperwork back to us so quickly. It helped us get the new fiscal year’s funds out to all of you on time.

You should have received notification of your GIA fund amount around July 1st. If you haven’t already, you are welcome to start using your funds anytime. We are delighted to see so many hospitals already submitting cases. If you did not receive your announcement or are unsure of how much you have available, please reach out to us at grants@sfafa.org.

We also want to remind you that once you have completely utilized your GIA funds, you have access to both Tauber Funds and GIA+. These are pooled resources available to our hospitals throughout the year. Case selection requirements are the same for both funds and the maximum grant amount is $4,000 per case.

INGRID TAUBER FUND FOR ANIMALS

Our Tauber Fund may be especially helpful for your higher-cost cases as they require a minimum hospital match of 25% of the grant amount. If you are treating an especially high-cost case and your client needs extra help, consider a Tauber grant. Before promising Taber funds to a client, always check the For Providers page on our website sfafa.org to see if we have the funds available. If you have any questions, reach out to us anytime.

GIA+ FUND

This fund is an extension of our GIA Fund. It has the same match as your GIA funds at a minimum of 50% of the grant amount. With a 50% match, your client can see even more assistance when they need it most. Since these funds can run out, you can reach out to us anytime to learn the current GIA+ Fund Balance.

HAVE YOU UTILIZED ALL OF YOUR AVAILABLE GIA, GIA+ AND TAUBER FUNDS FOR THE YEAR?

Reach out to our grants team. They may be able to help. Some of our member hospitals don’t always utilize all of their GIA funds before the end of the fiscal year. We may be able to facilitate a transfer of some of those funds for your hospital to use.

MEET “KYRO”

We would like to introduce you to Kyro, a twoyear old male Frenchie. Kyro’s mom adopted him from a friend after the friend couldn’t care for him anymore. Mom is a single parent with two kids and they had recently experienced housing insecurity. Life is improving for Kyro’s family. Luckily, things are looking up.

Kyro’s family loves him dearly and he is treated as a very important member of the family. Over time, mom noticed that he was having more difficulty breathing, especially after exercise or when it was warm. She brought him to a vet for an exam and was told that he would need BOAS surgery. She did not have pet insurance and was declined Care Credit. Any treatment beyond the basics was out of his mom’s reach and she had to decline the surgery.

Mom contacted SFAfA to see if there was anything that we could do to help. Luckily, Twin Cities Veterinary Hospital in Corte Madera recently joined SFAfA. They had heard about us from Mission Pet Hospital and were interested in a partnership. When Twin Cities joined, they were concerned that many of their clientele would not need SFAfA’s help. They suggested that if we received inquiries and the client didn’t have a regular vet, they would help by treating SFAfA cases. This was a perfect solution to Kyro’s problem. Dr. Curtis Press from Mission Pet volunteered to do the surgery at Twin Cities. With help from Dr. Press, the excellent team at Twin Cities, Twin Cities generous match and an SFAfA grant, Kyro was able to get the surgery he needed. He is doing great at home and his family is delighted.

Sometimes it takes a village to save a life!
